Moses and Manna from Heaven

The window depicts the biblical story of Moses and the manna from heaven in Exodus. In chapter 16 of Exodus describes the Israelites complaining about hunger in the Wilderness of Sin, leading God to promise daily bread (manna) and evening quail, testing not only their obedience and trust, but teaching dependence on God. They had to gather daily, with double on Friday for the Sabbath. This command some disobeyed but eventually learned to follow and established the Sabbath’s importance and God’s provision for 40 years.

The story foreshadows the Eucharist as the “Bread of Life”. Jesus, who referred to Himself as the true bread from heaven, offers spiritual sustenance and salvation, much like manna provided physical food. Thus, the chalice and host, symbol of Eucharist, in the small upper pane.
